Possible protective action of wine polyphenols against common neurodegenerative diseases

Paula-Silva-Bonn-Polyphenols-2018Paula Silva from Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS), Porto, Portugal will join the 12th World Congress on Polyphenols Applications: Bonn Polyphenols 2018 and share her research on the relation between  wine compounds and oxidative stress & neuroinflammation during her talk entitled "Possible protective action of wine polyphenols against common neurodegenerative diseases".

Summary of talk: Wine compounds, mainly polyphenols, have been found to decrease neuroinflammation, reduce oxidative stress, and mediate neuroplasticity in in vitro and in vivo models of neurodegeneration and aging. Limited human studies, however, demonstrate the need for further clinical research investigating wine polyphenols and possible neuroprotective effects of wine moderate consumption. The aim of this speech is to summarize how wine polyphenols can protect against several neurodegenerative diseases in view of recently published evidence.
